White House Staff Dana
Power Background Sheets |
Marcia Mandi Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs Prior to working for President Kent, Ms. Mandi spent eight years in the Senate. From 1996-2000 she served as Deputy Staff Director to the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. Mandi also served as Legislative Counsel to the Senate Steering Committee and an intern to Senator Di Giardino, and as Tax Counsel to John Russo, now Vice President. Prior to working on Capitol Hill, Mandi spent three years as an associate in the Public Policy and Law section of Hurt, Forrest, Richard, Lever and Upmann, LLP. Within the Whitehouse staff, she is seen as somewhat partisan to the First Lady and the Vice President. Her father worked for Secretary Fitzpatrick, the First Lady's father, and the First Lady promoted Ms. Mandi's career. She worked for the Vice President previously, and is seen as being a strong partisan of his agenda within the administration. Ms. Mandi started in the office of the First Lady, however personality issues developed with her working closely with Margaret Fitzpatrick. There have been hallway rumors that the First Lady considered Ms. Mandi to be "too close" to Vice President Russo, though it is more likely that issues arose over Emily Fitzpatrick, who is related by marriage to Senator Di Giardino, a close personal friend of Ms. Mandi. Ms. Mandi received her J.D. with high honors in 1989 from the National Law Center at George Washington University. She graduated cum laude from Radcliffe in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and political science. Mandi is a member of both the Connecticut and District of Columbia Bars. Ms. Mandi is married to John Mandi and resides in Virginia
with their two daughters, ages 4 and 2.
