Chris Varga

Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs

Chris Varga served in the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President for legislative affairs under the Clinton Administration, 1994-96. Varga also was senior vice president and managing director for the government relations division of Batemann-Bricksellar.

Subsequently Varga served in the position of professional staff member on the Senate Democratic Policy Committee and the Senate Budget Committee. He also served as a domestic policy advisor at the United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare and as an assistant professor of e
education at the University of Ohio.
Varga has promoted the role of Internet and Media within the Administration, and worked with Eli Pariser's MoveOn.Org. Vargo handled the administration of the Kent Web presence during the 2008 Campaign, but was eventually pushed out in favor of a professional staff provided by O'Sullivan Communications.

Varga currently works closely with Athey to focus on driving the President's agenda through the Cabinet and OMB.

Varga is scholar in residence in the Department of Government and the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies of American University, teaching a graduate seminar on the legislative process.

Office of Legislative Affairs

The Office of Legislative Affairs manages both the President's personal dealings with Congress, and protocol regarding members of Congress, and the progress of the President's nominees and Legislative Agenda through Congress.

Office of Legislative Affairs
