Edward Petzold Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff Edward "Ed" Petzold, (born 1946) is a prominent Ohio business and political leader and Deputy White House Chief of Staff. Petzold served as an Assistant for President Bill Clinton and President and Chief Executive Officer of Ashbury Automotive Ohio, dba Petzold Companies. The Petzold Companies is comprised of 11 automotive dealerships located in two states that generate in excess of $600 million. Mr. Petzold began his career building the company his grandfather founded, Petzold Leasing Systems, into one of the nation's largest transportation companies. Upon leaving the White House in July 1998, Mr. Petzold returned to the Petzold Companies as its Chairman. Petzold has a distinguished record of business leadership and public service, including various roles advising three Presidents. Petzold worked with President Carter as a member of the Democratic National Committee, was appointed to the National Petroleum Council and the Council on Environmental Quality by President Bush, and served President Clinton in several key positions, Counselor to the President, and Special Envoy for the Americas, with over five years of service in the President's Cabinet and on the National Economic Council. During his tenure with Petzold the company was recognized by Forbes, The Wall Street Transcript, and The Financial Times for management excellence. Petzold was born in Hudson Ohio, and graduated from the Ohio State University in 1969. He was elected to the State Legislature at the age of 23 and served as chairman of the state Democratic Party from 1974-1976. Petzold was the Chief
of Staff primarily responsible for Kent's trip during the incidents alleged
earlier today, and was traveling with Kent on Air Force One.
