Tom Wadsworth

Deputy Assistant to the President for Public Liaison

Wadsworth is currently Deputy Assistant to the President and White House Communications Director. Before being named Communications Director, he was principal deputy to Mrs. Judith Kanheman, assisting her in managing White House Communications. In his new capacity, Wadsworth is responsible for managing all White House communications.

Before joining the Kent Administration, Mr. Wadsworth served as a senior spokesman and the Director of Rapid Response for the Bush for President campaign in Columbus, Ohio. He has served President Kent since 1996, working on his successful Senatorial Campaigns . From 1996 to 2006, Wadsworth worked in the Senator's Office as Deputy to the Policy Director. During the 2008 election campaign, he served as Issues Director.

Before joining President Bush, Mr. Wadsworth worked for O'Sullivan and Associates, an Chicago-based political consulting firm. He earned his degree in political science from Perdue University.

Office of Public Liaison

The Office of Public Liaison promotes Presidential priorities through outreach to concerned constituencies and public interest groups. This includes planning White House briefings, meetings, and large events with the President, Vice President, and other White House staff.

In practical terms, this means that the Public Liaison is very much the President's PR man, concerned with appearances that enhance the President's image, and make for good television. This puts the Office of Public Liaison at odds with the political agenda of the President which is more concerned with his legislative agenda that with the President's personal appearance.
